Omamori Himari — 01

I thought that it was only dogs that humped humans....

So far, we have had three things, cat-girls, maids, and lolita’s … gotta be good … right? Desho? DESHO?!

Plot:

I need two halves to explain it properly, because, to me, it’s felt like two episodes.

First Half:

The show starts off as many anime do, waking up in the morning for school, whether it be the protagonist’s first day, or it’s their birthday, this show has the latter. Although the protagonist didn’t wake up, he got woken up, by a cat, on his face, of which he is allergic to. The protagonist in question is Amakawa Yuuto (Yuuto Amakawa, for us English people), and it’s his sixteen birthday. Becoming sixteen is like becoming a man in his family (who are all dead by the way, so he lives on his own), he loses the protection that keeps away the monsters and he gets a bodyguard in the form of a big-breasted woman, that is actually a cat-demon.

The cat girl, named Himari, first meets her childhood friend again, that morning, by licking his face. Yuuto’s best friend, a girl named Kuzaki Rinko, who is also in love with him (yes, according Wikipedia, it’s a harem), pulls him away from the situation. They both learn that Himari has joined their class.

That night, Himari sneaked into Yuuto’s bedroom and started getting frisky with him (oh, did I mention she has a crush on him too?), only to have Rinko come in (for some reason, wanting to say sorry for the morning) and stop the whole thing. Himari explained to the that she is a cat demon (only to have Yuuto sneeze all over her) and the Amakawa clan, were demon hunters. Himari’s clan was captured by the hunters hundreds of year ago, and were to killed, but they struck up a deal, for the demons to protect the Amakawa clan (until the last one died I suppose).

Second Part:

Not much happens really, so this won’t be long.

Rinko is depressed that she has a smaller chest than Himari, so she decides that she’ll win the affection of Yuuto by winning athletic events. Of course, being a demon, Himari totally owns Rinko at everything.

Summery:

The animation was nice, voice acting didn’t annoy me, a well thought out first episode.

Thoughts:

Very thought provoking episode. The first half was just details thrown at you left right and centre, luckily for me I had drunk that much coffee that I got it all (that and I’m friggin clever too :P), so if you don’t like fast-paced with humour screaming past you, then you’ll be watching this episode more than once.

One thing I should point out is the fan service, as you can see from the pictures (I try and not make them too ecchi to keep Ruby’s innocence to check), but it stretches way further, including a wet lingerie-wearing loli. But yes, it’s panties galore here.

The fight scene (which I forgot to talk about in the plot cause it was already becoming a hassle) was beautifully animated, and it was lucky that I got those screenshots, because VLC wouldn’t process them fast enough.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the episode, same with Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu I have been looking forward to this for a while, so I can quite high expectations, and it defiantly delivered, in humour and in storytelling.

I did once writ on my other blog that I needed a Kampfer replacement, meaning, an ecchi show that was small on brain power, and said that this was it. I was wrong, it’s way better, totally blows Kampfer out the water.

Oh, once thing that will bug me, another season of characters saying; “Yuuto!” and “Yuuuuuuto-san!”. After Nogizaka Haruka, I don’t know if I can handle it…

Preview:

Yay! More cats! Nah, the preview didn’t tell me a thing, but on the episode alone, I will keep watching.

Rating:

B, cause I know it WILL be better, so I can’t be too nice and give away A’s willy-nilly. (Get you mind out of the gutter as well, it’s an expression people!)

Other:

The Opening

I quite like it, except the music is a little slow, but that effect is awesome, I am so learning how to do that for Multimedia and Broadcasting this year!

<No ED just yet>

(Sorry for no embedation, for some reason it doesn’t like me, Ruby, help!)
